Our Halloween Bulletin Board

Here is an adorable bulletin board I found on Pinterest! I tweaked it a bit to make it mine. Since our kiddos learn to draw people using Handwriting Without Tears' Mat Man, we made simple shapes first so they would know where to put their faces. Then we made the ghosts! Students in our school have LOVED going by and peeking under the sheets to see who is under there! Check out my own "spooky" picture *hee hee*

Red Ribbon Week

This is Red Ribbon Week at Taylorsville Elementary! On Monday, everyone was asked to wear t-shirts or sweatshirts of their favorite college team or where they went to college (teachers and IAs). Everyone was also asked to wear jeans for being "jean"ious! :) Here's a pic of the people who wore their college logos:

Last Week's Activities

We have continued to learn more about letters and their sounds in our classroom. Last week, we learned about the letters Jj, Kk, and Ll. We fed our "Sound Muncher" some crazy stuff! One day he even ate a Lion! This week we will learn about the letters Mm, Nn, and Oo. On Wednesday, we will sample Octopus Stew! Yum yummy!

In math, we sorted buttons and experimented with measuring tools. We created a pictograph of our birthdays and explored sound and motion patterns. We sang "B-I-N-G-O" to discuss clapping patterns. Many of them did not know that song!

Book orders will be sent home soon. You can order using the order forms and send in money or a check made out to Scholastic OR you can always order online using our classroom code: https://orders.scholastic.com/GQHMB

Enjoy your week!

Our week at a glance...

We've been highly productive this week! We have learned about letters D, E, and F; we fed the Sound Muncher objects that began with those letters...on Monday he ate "D" objects (luckily Derek and Dacoda weren't eaten!)...on Tuesday he ate "E" objects (that silly Sound Muncher actually ate an elephant!)...on Wednesday he even ate two FLIES!; we learned about the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. We said our little rhymes for each number: A straight line down is fun for one! Around and back on a railroad track...TWO! TWO! Around a tree, around a tree, that's the way we make a three. Down and over and down some more, that's the way to make a four. Fat old five goes down, around, put a hat on to see what we found. We practiced writing our numbers and letters correctly. We sang all about the color yellow. We worked very hard this week. And NO ONE fell asleep Thursday or Friday! :) Kindergarten is hard work!

Welcome All to Our Class!

Hello all! We have been enjoying our first full week of school. Students have been learning so much already. We have learned about 3 letters, A, B, and C. We have 2 "popcorn words", the and red. We sang about the color red. We have learned about different pattern blocks. We practiced one to one correspondence. We have learned "school stuff" such as the correct way to hold a pencil, how to hold and cut with scissors, where we put our names on our paper, how to WRITE our names (we're still struggling with that at this point with several :) ), where we start our letters (at the top!) We have talked about weather, the days of the week, counted pennies, counted how many days we've been in school, made our letters of the week using Play-Doh, and read a book about a little girl mouse with a VERY long name (Chrysanthemum.) We then put the letters in our name together to hang as a decoration in our classroom after we figured out who in our room had the longest name (Catherine) and how many letters were the most frequent in our names (5 letters). We have really had a busy week. I'm going home now to be zonked out for the night! Bye!
